VICTOR PIERSON
Group of 10 Mexican Cowboy and Horse Riding Scenes.

Each watercolors on paper mounted on card stock, circa 1870. Each approximately 175x245 mm; 7x9 1/2 inches.

Ex-collection Pensler Galleries, Washington, D.C.

There are few details on the life of the late 19th century artist Pierson, who was born in England and emigrated to the United States, likely by way of Mexico, in the 1860s. He was active primarily in New Orleans, where he made some monumental topographical and commemorative fair views along with numerous portraits. His self-portrait in a horse-drawn coach along with fellow New Orleans artist and sometimes painting partner, Theodore Sydney Moïse (1808-1883), is now in the Louisiana State Museum, Baton Rouge.
