  • Provenance: In 1986, Keith Haring opened his first pop shop in New York. First thought of as an extension of his work, this boutique aimed at offering collectibles of his art and making it accessible to anyone. He renewed the experience in Tokyo in 1988 by opening a satellite boutique. Conceived as an immersive shop, Tseng Kwong Chi documented its process of creation. There, Haring combined his singular palette with Japanese cultural components to create merchandising goods. While Haring's NY shop closed in 2005, this project in Tokyo lacked financial sustainability and remained ephemeral. The collaboration between the two artists, who both passed away in 1990 from HIV complications, regained visibility through this posthumous exhibition project and publication organized in cooperation with the Estate of Tseng Kwong Chi.
