After being publicly outed by the New York Daily News, Jorgensen became an instant celebrity. She had a successful nightclub act and appeared on television, radio, and in theatrical productions. She wrote an autobiography and was the first trans woman to perform at the legendary Delmonico's Restaurant in New York City.
