Elisabeth Marbury

1856-1933

Series of letters signed by the pioneering literary agent.

6 items, including 3 Typed Letters Signed by Marbury; mailing folds, filing notes, minor wear. Various places, 1911-1912.

Elisabeth Marbury was a high-powered literary and theatrical agent who represented Oscar Wilde, George Bernard Shaw, and many others. She lived openly with interior designer Elsie de Wolfe for more than 20 years.

These letters were addressed to theatrical agent Marcel Ballot, concerning the royalties on the 1895 play "La Princesse Lointaine" by Edmond Rostand. 3 are Typed Letters Signed by Marbury in French on her "Miss Elisabeth Marbury, Representing Dramatists" letterhead. Another is a telegram with a secretarial Marbury signature, and one is on Marbury letterhead, in English but signed by employee Mary Geary. Also included is a 1911 letter by Louis Labat regarding the same production.
Each about 11 x 8 1/2 in. (27.9 x 21.6 cm.)
