Signed in acrylic, left edge.
18 x 11 1/2 in. (45.7 x 29.2 cm.)

  • Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist.
The estate of Dr. Charles Silverstein, New York.
    The NYC LGBT Community Center.

Generously donated by the Estate of Charles Silverstein. Silverstein (1935 – 2023) was an American writer, therapist, and LGBT rights advocate. He was best known for his presentation as a graduate student before the American Psychiatric Association in 1973 that led to the removal of homosexuality as a mental illness from the organization's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. Proceeds of this item's sale will benefit The NYC LGBT Community Center.

Deni Ponty's artwork is an homage to his adopted American home—the city of Los Angeles. As a gay artist originating from the Netherlands, Ponty has that peculiar Dutch eye for detail in perspective, which still has the power to amuse and attract. His depictions of the male figure—clothed and nude—in modern settings consciously refer to a classical European heritage in both technique and style.
