DAVID BAILEY (1938- )
Supermodel Jean Shrimpton. Silver print, the image measuring 14 1/4x11 1/4 inches (36.2x28.6 cm.), the sheet slightly larger, with Bailey's signature, initials, and notation "Vogue vintage print," in pencil, and a Condé Nast hand stamp, on verso. 1963

  • Notes: Shrimpton was "discovered" by Bailey, with whom she enjoyed a very public four year romance. The first supermodel, and the highest-paid model of the 1960s, she was the face of "Swinging London." Shrimpton later told a reporter for The Guardian, "I never liked being photographed. I just happened to be good at it."
