CHARLES KRUTCH (1887-1981)

Charles Krutch became a staff photographer for the Tennessee Valley Authority in 1934, succeeding Lewis Hine. The TVA was created to not only improve the navigability of the Tennessee River, control flooding, and provide electricity, but also to create economic development and to modernize and improve and the quality of life in the region. Krutch's artistic depictions of the area became representational of the public image of the TVA.
