BURKHARD MANGOLD (1873-1950) ROLLSCHUHBAHN. 1910.
39 1/2x27 3/4 inches, 100 1/4x70 1/2 cm. J.E. Wolfensberger, Zurich.
Condition A-: minor creases in corners; restored loss in left edge. Mounted on Japan.
Burkhard Mangold's artistic career covered several distinct areas including painting, stained glass and poster design. In 1905, he began working with the inimitable Swiss printing house of Wolfensberger and shortly became one of the pioneers of modern Swiss poster art. Here, the roller skaters are depicted without outline in the style of Ludwig Hohlwein, but Mangold, in an almost impressionist-style involving small dots of color, weaves a collage of different graphic patterns into a graceful image. Mangold 103.
