  • Provenance: Bill T. Jones is an American choreographer, director, author and dancer. In 1982, he founded The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company with his late partner, Arnie Zane, in which they redefined the dance landscape. Valuing inclusivity, their company consisted of nontraditional performers of different races, sizes and backgrounds. In the "International Encyclopedia of Dance" Jones is deemed a "choreographic provocateur, [that] presents his ideas about identity, art, race, sexuality, nudity, power, censorship, homophobia and AIDS-as-chemical-warfare with a streetwise, in-your-face attitude."

Jones has been the recipient of the 1994 MacArthur Genius Award and was a Kennedy Center Honoree in 2010. He has received two Tony's for Best Choreography, and has choreographed for multiple modern and ballet companies, including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Boston Ballet, Lyon Opera Ballet, and Berlin Opera Ballet amongst others.
