Silver prints, the images measuring 7 1/2x11 1/2 to 13 1/2x10 3/4 inches (19.1x29.2 to 34.3x27.3 cm.), and the reverse, three sheets slightly larger, and all but one print dry mounted or cornered to a mount 16x20 inches (40.6x50.8 cm.), each with Newhall's signature, title, and date, in pencil, on mount recto or verso or print verso; two also signed, in pencil, on the overmat. 1940-63; printed 1960s

    Known for being the Museum of Modern Art, New York's first photography curator and for his iconic publication "The History of Photography", Beaumont Newhall was also an accomplished writer and photographer. His writings and photographs work chronicled his lengthy and influential career, evidenced by this group of intimate portraits and still lives related to some of the most well-known photographers of the period with whom he worked closely.
