  • Notes: complete run of the first volume of raw, the flagship alternative comic series that introduced speigelman''s maus to the world.
Raw was their attempt to elevate comics into a respectable art form and "to force people to see how beautiful, and how moving, and how powerful the work could be . . . to fight the prejudice against comics as toilet literature." "Raw introduced comic art into the interdisciplinary mix that characterized the downtown art scene of the 1980s"--Allen, page 290.

The series comprises: #1. The Graphix Magazine of postponed suicides. #2: The Graphix Magazine for damned intellectuals. "Maus" (Chapter II). #4: The Graphix Magazine for your bomb shelter''s coffee table. ("Reagan speaks for himself" and containing the sound collage flexible disc), "Maus" (Chapter III). #5: The Graphix Magazine of abstract depressionism. "Maus" (Chapter IV). #6: The Graphix Magazine that overestimates the taste of the American public. #7: The torn-again Graphix Mag (with "torn" cover as issued). "Maus" (Chapter VI) and Yoshiharu Tsuge "Red Flowers." #8: The Graphic Aspirin for war fever. "Maus" (Chapter VII). Rear cover with vertical soft crease and chip to lower outer corner.
