Emil Cardinaux's nephew Alfred was an artist in his own right. Between 1929 and 1932 he was an art director in Paris at the Editions d'Art, where he designed some excellent Art Deco posters for transportation and automobile companies. His designs for Citroën and Chevrolet use the same graphic trope as for this soaring airplane, using white "airbrush" shaded lines to show the speed and direction of movement (See Swann sales 2637- Lot 140 & 2246 - Lot 34). This image for a Swiss airline was also printed on a 1930s luggage label.
