Lot 87: Ernest Briggs, Untitled, (#220), oil on canvas, 1959. Estimate $40,000 to $60,000.

The Modern & Post-War Art auction has works beginning with early modernism through post-war abstraction, as well as Latin-American and Latinx art. Modern works by John Piper, William Zorach, and Maximilian Luce will begin the sale, followed by works of Post-War artists, Giorgio Cavallon, John Little, Sally Michel Avery and many more. Our Latin-American art section features a collagraph by Cuban artist Belkis Ayón, Intolerancia, 1998. Latinx contemporary artists include Alexis Duque, Lina Puerta and Scherezade García.

Alma Thomas & the Washington Scene

A special section is devoted to the artwork of Alma Thomas and her Washington, DC contemporaries. The centerpiece, Reflections, was recently featured in the traveling retrospective Alma Thomas: Everything is Beautiful. In addition to works by Thomas, fellow Washington artists feature such as Richard Dempsey, Sam Gilliam, Loïs Mailou Jones and Delilah Pierce.
