 Lot 46: John Chamberlain, Untitled, steel, 1954. Estimate $70,000 to $100,000.

This fall’s Contemporary Art auction will offer an exciting array of works in all media, including painting, sculpture, drawing and limited editions, spanning the last half century and more, with a focus on Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Minimalism, Fluxus, Photorealism, New European Painting and Urban Art.

Highlights of the auction include several early works by artists who evolved into major figures within their respective fields, including a 1954 steel sculpture by John Chamberlain, his first in this medium, and a painted collage composition by Frank Stella while he was a student at Princeton University.


Abstract Expressionists & Pop Art

Signature works by Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler and Robert Motherwell represent Abstract Expressionism. There are also exceptional works by Pop Art leaders Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, including one of Warhol’s iconic Campbell’s Soup color screenprints from 1969, as well as enticing works by Robert Indiana, James Rosenquist, Tom Wesselmann and Alex Katz.

From the “Me” Decade to now there is a range of scintillating works by artists including Keith Haring, Christo, Donald Sultan, Kiki Smith, Jenny Holzer, Sean Scully and others.
